To Enable unlocking pattern you need to have your google account and your wi fi  on. otherwise you will have to hard reset this will make whole data lost. generally after this you will see account recovery process on your google account this will make you provide with password recovery option henceforth after you will be able do it more accurately. for more info about unlocking pattern go to URL below: http://mytabletguru.com/forgot-password-pattern-unlock-of-android-tablet/
